Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves inserting fine needles into various points on a pet’s body, engaging the nervous system to produce more of its own natural painkillers.

It can be used to treat a range of conditions, from arthritis and muscle sprains to inflammatory bowel disease and chronic non-healing wound, in cats, dogs, rabbits and other pets, as well as horses and, of course, humans!

A course of acupuncture usually ranges from four to six weeks, but we’ll make a bespoke plan for your pet when we prescribe treatment.

Our vet Niall has trained in acupuncture and has seen great results prescribing it to patients.

If you think acupuncture could help your pet, book a consult with Niall to discuss your options and to learn more.

Does acupuncture hurt my pet?

The needles used are very fine, and most animals experience minimal discomfort.

Many pets become relaxed or even sleepy during sessions.

Will my pet need sedation for acupuncture?

Sedation is rarely necessary.

It may be considered if a pet is in significant pain or has difficulty staying still during treatment.

How many sessions will my pet need?

Typically, a course consists of weekly sessions over four to six weeks.

The exact number and frequency will depend on your pet's specific condition and response to treatment.

What should I expect after my pet's acupuncture session?

Some pets may appear more relaxed or sleepy after treatment, while others might be more energetic.

These are normal responses.

It's advisable to keep your pet calm for the rest of the day to allow the treatment to take full effect.
